Show and Tell: Home Tour 2017

It's Show and Tell Tuesday!
This Tuesday we're sharing a little home tour.
I think the last time I did this was during the Christmas season.
Our home is all decked our for Christmas, which I love, but today you will get a little look into how it looks during every other season.

Welcome to our home!

Kitchen

This is probably the space where I spend the most time.
I eat breakfast at the little eating space below.
It's also where we eat dinner since there are only two of us.
If we have people over we move to the actual dining room.

Living Room

I love our sectional.
It fits our living room just right.

Listening to a little HGTV as I work and snap pictures.

The little corner area by our front door.

Bathroom

We completely redid this space when we moved in.
It was stripped down to the bare boards, and we added the shower, a new sink/vanity, new light fixture above the mirror, new light and fan up top, new toilet, new floors...basically new everything!

It's not the largest space, which means when you use something it has to be put away, but I love how it was all redone by us!

Dining Room

I was a little unsure of how to setup this room.
The two pieces below are from my grandma's house.
The one on the right actually holds a stereo system inside.
It even has a record player!

Our home makes a circle. You can go from the kitchen to the living room to the hallway where the bathroom and bedrooms are to the dining room and back to the kitchen.
We decided to offset the table so that it's not directly in the center of the dining room.
This allows for more room to walk through it.

Bedroom

Our main bedroom isn't big, but it fits.
One day we would love to have a bigger bedroom with a King bed, but for now this works!

Home tours are my favorite.
I love to watch HGTV and tell the TV what I would fix and keep.
At Christmas around here they have a home tour, and it's so fun to see all of the homes decked out with decor.
Here's a little peak into our home; I can't wait to hop over and take a peak into yours too!

2017 Exotic Eastern Caribbean Carnival Cruise Days 1, 2 and 3

After a week back in summer reality I'm ready to share about our Carnival Cruise!

Last summer Alex and I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise for our honeymoon.
We had a great time and loved seeing the various ports, so we booked another cruise for this summer.
Initially we booked through Norwegian, but the itinerary changed and we weren't so sure we wanted to visit Cuba, so we changed.
Now I was a bit bummed that we had to give up our nice balcony room at a great rate, but I was glad to explore a new cruise line-Carnival.

Now I've always heard that Carnival is a party ship and probably the most basic cruise ship.
After this trip I would definitely agree.
It's not that we didn't like it, but comparing it to another cruise line, it didn't have as many amenities and extras.

Day 1 was a long travel day with a couple hours driving to the airport, delayed flights, missed connections, obtaining a rental car and a couple more hours to Marathon.

We made it in time to catch some dinner.
We dropped off our bags and headed to Sunset Grille and Bar
They are located right on the water before the 7 mile bridge and even has a pool.
It was raining just as we got there, so no one was sitting outside.

My only complaint was it took SO long to get our food.
We were starved after traveling all day, and we felt it took forever to get our food.

From there we went back to our hotel- Courtyard Marriott Marathon and enjoyed the breathtaking sunset.

After enjoying the sunset and walking around the marina next door we headed to Sweet Savannah's.
They made our wedding cake, and since we had a destination wedding we didn't keep the top half like some traditionalists do.
I was hoping they would have a small cake or some cake slices, but I settled for a hot fudge sundae instead!

Last year I got to see a momma dolphin teaching her young how to swim in the early morning.
We were hoping this was a regular occurrence, so we went out early to check it out on Day 2.
Unfortunately, no dolphins to watch.

I did get to enjoy a little bit of time at the pool.
It was slightly cloudy and we needed to check out soon, so we didn't stay long.

Renewing our vows. ha!

On my way to check out the hotel the assistant recognized me and asked if I was the bridge from last year.
She had helped with our wedding, and even remembered me a year later! Wow! Good memory!
I got to see and talk to Jill who is in charge of all affairs at the hotel.
It was so good to see everyone, and then we headed back north to Miami.
Along the way we stopped at an outlet mall.
Alex and I love to shop.
We found some great deals at Coach and Gap, so it was a good thing we ended up checking two suitcases instead of one.

On our Royal Caribbean cruise last year we stayed at a hotel really close to the port.
We didn't love it that much, so this time we stayed a little farther away, and it was right by the airport.
It was so easy to drop off our luggage at the hotel, return the rental car and take the shuttle back to the hotel.
We even got on the wrong shuttle.
I knew it was the wrong one, but Alex thought anything that said Marriott was ours.
We needed the Marriott not all of the other extensions associated with the Marriott.
I finally was able to convince him it was the wrong shuttle, and as we stopped to let someone else on, we hopped off!

We found the right shuttle and made it back to our hotel.
That evening we ate at Catch of the Day
It was nearly right across the street from the hotel.
The meal was good but a bit pricey.
It had a fun atmosphere on the deck.

The following morning I was up early and hit up the elliptical.
We used Uber for the first time and made it to the port right on time.
Alex and I tried out the Faster to the Fun pass and his parents who were going on the cruise with us did not.
I was really curious to see how much faster we would get to the FUN!

His parents actually beat us through security and the initial check in.
We did board the ship before them, but it was only by 20 minutes.
Our room was ready, but they didn't bring the luggage early like was promised.

We did some exploring and grabbed some lunch.

Played a little golf.

And then Alex's parents went to the spa to celebrate their 30 Wedding Anniversary this past April.
Alex felt bad that he hadn't gotten me anything for our anniversary, so he told me to head to the spa too.

I got a nice hot stone massage, and I could definitely tell when we were pulling out of the port.
I was a bit bummed that Carnival's relaxing room doesn't overlook the ocean like Royal Caribbean's did, but I'm going to do a whole post on the pro's and con's of each line later on.
I got up from the massage and in my normal nature decided to nearly run down the 6 flights of steps to our room.
I love to walk; I love to run.
It was no different than I would do any other time, but I think something got to me from laying horizontal while we pulled out of the port to suddenly being vertical and running down 6 flights of stairs.

I got to our room and felt a bit weird, but we decided to go explore some more and get a bite to eat before our regular dinner.
I could barely sit up on the deck of the buffet.
I told Alex that I thought I would be sick, and we headed back to the room.
I've never taken seasick pills before, but I popped some of them and laid down.

After about an hour I was feeling a bit better, so we headed to the regular dining room for dinner.
It was good to get some regular, whole food in me.
I'm not a great person for fried/greasy food like the buffet offered.
We watched some music trivia, the welcome show and went to bed, ready to wake up in Nassau!

Tomorrow I will be doing a little home tour, and then on Wednesday I will be back with Days 4, 5 and 6!

Have a great Monday!

Friday Favorites: Insta Drain, Yummy Desserts, Weekly Recap, Book Warehouse

Happy Friday!
It's good to be back home and in the swing of normal summer life.
As always, I'm linking up with ErikaNarci and Andrea
We're sharing our favorites from the week.
Grab their graphic and linkup with your favorites from the week, too.

Insta Drain

This sounds crazy, but I've been trying to clear out the drains in our bathroom.
I've been using the DIY method of baking powder, vinegar and water, but it doesn't last too long.
While in the Amish Country there was an infomercial on Insta-Flo.
The man working also told me it was probably their best working product right now.
I'm not sure if he was being truthful or just trying to get me to buy something, but it worked.

I've used it once so far, and I feel like it helped a lot in the shower.
Now we have a farmhouse sink in the bathroom, and it doesn't have a regular type of drain, so I tried using it, and I think it cleared some of it out, but not all of it.

Do you guys have any products you use to unclog drains?
Not the most fancy question, but it's real life!

Yummy Recipes

I love being in the kitchen, and have enjoyed baking some yummy desserts this summer.
Earlier in the week I shared Shay's Lemon Bundt cake.
If you love lemon and want to try out the recipe, click here.

If you're not gaga over lemon, maybe banana is more of your jam.
Click here to find out how to make this scrumptious banana pudding recipe, also from Shay.

Sweet Summertime Recap

Yesterday I shared what I've been up to for the past two weeks.
A whole lot of sunshine, sand and the ocean.

The Painted Nest

I've been looking for a sign to go in our kitchen above our big kitchen window that looks over the backyard.
We have top down, bottom up shades, so I didn't want to get curtains.
I saw on one of Red Brick Mantle's Instagram pictures this pretty yet simple sign.

She got it from The Painted Nest, and I did too.
I wish it was a bit longer, but it works.
I love that it's not too rustic, and it spells out one of my favorite places to visit.

I recently saw a vertical one that was more galvanized that said Fresh Baked Pies.
I wish it were horizontal and not so rusticy, and it would be mine!

The weather is set to be rainy and cool for the next couple of days, so I'm up bright and early to head to a book warehouse sale.
Let's hope my drive is worth it.
Every book is $2 and below.
My classroom could use some new titles!

Sweet Summertime Weeks #3 and 4

I'm back with a recap of the past two weeks.

We went on an anniversary getaway back to where we got married and a Caribbean cruise.

It's been a fun, busy and relaxing/exhausting couple of weeks!

Thursday June, 8

On Thursday morning we woke up at 2 am, got ready and hit the rode to catch our plane to Fort Lauderdale.
The airport we were going to was a little less than 2 hours away.
The day before I took my in-laws to the airport, but their flight got cancelled due to the weather, so they had to come back home and we picked them up on this morning and heading back to the airport.
I've never been to an airport that was SO busy.
Now I've been to this airport at the exact same time before, but it was crazy on this day!!

So we cut it a bit close on time because we stopped for breakfast at McDonald's and talk about the slowest McDonald's ever!!
We waited in line for security for what seemed like forever.
We raced to our gate only for our flight to be delayed and delayed.
I got in some good reading time on the flight.
After a while I feel like I'm getting car sick, so I know to stop.

Good thing is we finally made it to Florida!

And we got to take in this view as the sun set.

Friday, June 9

We woke up in the same hotel where we got married.
It was neat to check out the venue without all of the excitement of a wedding.

I missed our awesome corner room overlooking the water with a balcony, but I did get to enjoy a little time at the pool this time around.
Then we stood where we said "I Do!" and headed back to Miami.

Saturday, June 10

I was up early and hit up the gym at our hotel before getting ready and trying out Uber on our way to the Port.
We boarded the ship and set out to explore what all was awaiting us!

Sunday, June 11

Happy Anniversary to us!
One year later we enjoyed a bar hopping tour in Nassau!

I'm not much of a drinker, but my in-laws chose this excursion and we enjoyed seeing a little different view of Nassau.
One stop was at a small local resort.
It wasn't on the ocean, but it was a pretty little place.

Monday, June 12

A morning bike tour and a day at the white sandy beach of Half Moon Cay was what this day had in store for us!

Helmets were mandatory!
Alex wasn't very happy about that!

We had a pit stop a couple of places.
One was to check in on the stingray's.

Ah! What a way to spend the day!

Tuesday, June 13

Back to another beach with pretty water in Grand Turk.
We enjoyed a local eatery, the crystal clear water and sunshine (and some rain)!

As a Steelers' fan I was glad to see that Grand Turk supports Pittsburgh with the best ketchup ever!

Wednesday, June 14

A day on the ship left us tired and our skin screaming.
I'm really not a fan of the ship's pool and it's so odd to be surrounded by water in the ocean but not be able to get in.
We enjoyed the hot (cold) tub on this day in the adults only area.
I enjoyed some good reading time.

Thursday, June 15

Back to land we were.
Another delayed flight and we landed in time to meet up with our friends for wing night.

Friday, June 16

Back to work for Alex and back to the pool for me.
I enjoyed laundry, cleaning and reading while lying at the pool.

Saturday, June 17

A trip to our local Amish country.
Some Amish Chipotle- they have their own little taco/bowl bar, more flower baskets and my favorite pizza shop.

Do you see the ice cream below.
That's a kids cone or cup in my case.
You can get from a kids cone to three dips.
I have no clue how anyone can eat the triple dip.
The kids one alone is like 6 dips of the ice cream scoop!

Sunday, June 18

Spent the morning hoeing the garden and pulling weeds.
I'm a country girl at heart.
My parents had a wedding this afternoon, so I spent Saturday afternoon with my dad.
Brought him his favorite pizza, salad and a cherry pie.

Love my dad so so much!

Monday, June 19

I've really tried to slow down and enjoy life.
I spent some time watch our hummingbirds fight and drink from the feeder.

Tuesday, June 20

Alex had a doctor's appointment on this morning, which meant he got to sleep in.
I made us eggs, toast and juice and we enjoyed a nice morning walk before he headed to his appointment, and I went to pick berries.

This was my last time to pick this year.
The berries were small and there were lots of thistles in the part of the patch where I was picking.

This envelope holds a lot of information about my new little side job.
It came while we were away, and I spent a little time going through the info without trying to be overwhelmed.

Wednesday, June 21

I dropped off a letter at the post office to begin my run
Then I headed out on a glorious run to our railroad tracks (one of my favorite runs).

I got to enjoy some time at the pool while reading before heading back to finish up one module in my summer class on gifted students and head to meet up with a friend.

We hit up our local farmer's market, bought some local veggies and ate a wood fire pizza from one of the food trucks.

Not images were captured on this day, but I guess that means it was too good to pull out my camera.

Well there you have it.
The last two weeks have been fun and exhausting.
I love cruises, but boy do they drain you.
You almost need a vacation from a vacation.
I'd love to hit up another place this summer, but we shall see what Alex's schedule says.

Have a great Thursday!
