Workin' It: New Years Goals

Today I'm linking up with Erika and Shay for their first post of Workin' It Wednesdays!

Grab their graphic, link back to them and tell us about your
New Years Goals and how you're KEEPING them!

I blogged about my goals here.
My goals are very simple this year.

In the past I:
  • Gave up pop-Still haven't had it since 8th grade!
  • Read the Bible in one year
  • Got my master's degree in Teacher Leadership
  • Ate lunch with my colleagues at least once a week instead of grading/lesson planning
They're really not resolutions just targets that I want to reach. Each year is different. I reflect on what I think I missed out on or what I wished I'd done more of and then I make mine.

This year mine are very simple because I want to enjoy the simple days.
Our society is so rushed.
We don't enjoy anything anymore because we think we're doing everything wrong and we're trying to keep up with everyone else.

I eat generally healthful meals, but I'd like to ramp up my veggie intake.
Any great ideas on doing just that?
I typically eat a snack each day around 10 a.m.
Recently, I've been taking carrots and cucumbers for my mid-morning snack.
In addition, I've tried to have a vegetable on the table for dinner each night, and then take the leftovers in my lunch the next day.
I just don't love veggies, but I'm trying.

My husband and I have a big financial goal that we're aiming to meet.
I hate losing, so I've got to reign in on this one.
My closet is full of clothes.
Actually it's pretty ridiculous!
I counted the sweaters in ONE dresser drawer and stopped at 20!
That's only sweater.
I have a full array of cardigans in my closet and long sleeve tops in another dresser drawer.
I'm really cutting back on spending on clothes.
I love a lot of outfits, but I can't even wear them all!
One area that we struggle cutting back on is food.
Do you guys have any great tips on reducing the food budget?
We basically eat every meal at home.
We eat breakfast at home each day, both of us pack our lunches and we cook dinner every night.
I feel like our grocery bill is so high, but we also buy in advance.
If there's a deal on toilet paper or paper towels or chicken thighs, we buy it and put the frozen foods in our freezer for later.

As I mentioned above, I want to enjoy the simplicity of life.
I worry too much and get caught up in small things because I'm a perfectionist.
I want to not walk so fast in the hallways or act like I'm always on a mission.
I want to see the flowers and smell them too.
Some days I want to skip my workout and stay in my pajamas all day.
There are time when I'm too motivated (is that right?).
I think I always need to be doing something, but I don't.
Recently, this has been easy because we've had so much time off of school.
I'm trying to read, listen to a podcast, look out the window or just rest and be still more.

This year I also want to have a lot of trust in God.
There are some things on my heart that I really want to happen, but I know it's all in his time.
I was reminded of that with a recent daily devotion.

I love this time of year, when people are motivated and optimistic.
Just think what this world would be like if what we put our minds to, is what we did.
Wishing you the best year.
I hope when December 31 comes around you can post about how you nailed it!

  1. I love roasting veggies! They give vegetables a lot more flavor and make them more enjoyable to eat if you aren't a big veggie eater. I love roasting sweet potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, brussels sprouts, corn on the cob--anything!

  2. Great goals! I'm super jealous that you have the will power to stay away from soda. Saving is also a priority for me this year! Student loans and online shopping are killllllling me!

  3. I hate most veggies. I blame my parents! I do love spinach and kale salads though and eat that most days for school lunch. I love that you had a lunch goal of eating with your team! I got in trouble with admin a few years ago for not eating in the lounge! I use ibotta to get money back on groceries. Let me know if you need a code- and a lot of people use checkout 51 I think it's called.

  4. Excellent goals. I feel like our food bills are so high too, but we feed a family of five. I set a budget once a week to shop and no matter what, it's still cheaper than eating out.
Stopping by from the link up!!
